Visa Tokyo Olympics 2019-2020

Managed Visa’s complex, fast-moving global Tokyo Olympics campaign.

Campaign consisted of a 3-tiered approach, featuring modular creative for TV, digital, and social. Led cross-market communications to ensure the work delivered on brand goals, market priorities, and could be easily adapted by local teams.

  • Organized $1M+ and $4M+ productions for development of campaign films, social assets, banners, and an image library. These large, packed productions were a test of relationship management and explicit attention to detail. We worked with 13 Olympians, managed 15+ clients and agency partners on set, and coordinated across two production arms, efficiently capturing all content needs within budget and keeping team spirits high throughout the week-long productions

  • Developed global campaign playbooks to guide markets on how to activate Visa’s Olympic program. These included creative and strategic background, rollout strategy, asset profiles, localization guidance, usage details, and sample channel copy

  • Spearheaded complicated wardrobe process for 20 unique country kits by partnering with designers to navigate through athlete brand affiliations, custom requests, and market requirements

  • Partnered with key markets to optimize creative for country nuances

  • Led weekly agency taskforce meetings with 15+ markets sharing campaign updates and providing strategic and creative guidance on local work

  • When the pandemic hit, we quickly shifted gears to create 10x Olympic athlete PSAs in one week - launching from athlete social accounts and some even on NBC. Crafted simple and clear athlete instructions to guide the Olympians on how to capture content from their place of isolation

Note: We created a lot of beautiful films, packed with unbelievable Olympians who also happen to be unbelievable humans. Some films were feel-good, others made you want to sing, and one even featured an Olympic horse trotting through a drive-through. These are not displayed here as the Tokyo Olympics were postponed due to COVID-19.
